Autumn Meeting for All Postgraduate Students at KTH CSC on Wednesday December 5, 2007, at 4:00 PMThe Autumn meeting for all postgraduate students at KTH CSC will be held on Wednesday December 5th at 4:00 PM (sharp) in room 1537. We are very glad to announce that the KTH PhD Student Ombudsman Lisa Segerdahl will be at the meeting to give information and also answer any questions you might have. And of course there will also be sandwiches and socializing! For those of us who are more formally inclined, there is now an official agenda for the meeting. Please register for the meeting by sending an e-mail to dr-sekr~at-sign~csc~dot~kth~dot~se (making the obvious replacements), so that we can order the right amount of sandwiches! One important item on the agenda, as usual at the Autumn meeting, is the election of PhD representatives for next year. We would very much welcome international PhD students! It should be pointed out, though, that some understanding of Swedish helps when performing your duties as a PhD representative, as this is the working language of all school bodies. If you are curious about what the Postgraduate Students' Council is doing, and/or are interested in getting engaged, you are very welcome to contact the President of the council by e-mail to dr-ordf~at-sign~csc~dot~kth~dot~se. Thank You for a Great Postgraduate Students Meeting, and Do Keep in Touch!Thank you for a great meeting on May 29th! As those of you who were there noticed, the PhD Council President was away travelling and therefore could not attend the meeting, but from the rest of the PhD Council Board there have been reports about a meeting with many participants, and with interesting and engaging discussions. The notes from the meeting will be published on this website sooner or later, but we hope that you understand if it takes some time due to summer vacations. We members of the PhD Council Board really appreciate this opportunity of meeting all of you PhD student colleagues and discuss the questions that we are working on. So a big, big thank you to all of who came—a record number!—and to the rest of you: welcome next time, to the autumn meeting for all postgraduate students at KTH CSC at the end of the Autumn term! Meeting for All Postgraduate Students at KTH CSC on Tuesday May 29th, 2007 at 2.30-4.00 PMIt is now time for the spring meeting of the PhD Council at KTH CSC, comprising all postgrad students at KTH CSC. We in the Board of the PhD Council would like to discuss with you which questions are the most important for us postgrad students, and where we in the Board of the PhD Council should concentrate our efforts. We will happily inform you about what we have been doing so far if you want to hear about that, but we are especially interested in getting to know what you think! Judging from the PhD student questionnaire at KTH CSC last spring, questions about supervision and postgraduate education seem to engage many postgrad students. Maybe we could discuss questions such as:
See you on Tuesday May 29th at 2.30 PM in room 1537, Osquars backe 2, 5th floor.
The PhD Council Website Lagging Behind (But Beginning to Catch up)The PhD Council website has been lagging behind this spring. Our apologies. The reason is that the president of the council, who is also the webmaster, has had an extremely heavy workload. However, the PhD representatives have kept on working at full speed, although we have not released as much information about our work as we did during 2006. For instance, in no small part thanks to our efforts, KTH CSC has now placed an order for new work chairs. Expected delivery is in the beginning of June. More information should be available in Numero soon. PhD Student Salaries for 2007
There is now a new agreement about the
PhD salaries 2007.
More information can be found at our PhD student salary webpage. Autumn meeting of the PhD Council on Tuesday December 5th, 2006 at 4 PM
The autumn meeting for all postgraduate students at KTH CSC will be held on Tuesday December 5th at 4 PM. The meeting will be conducted in Swenglish. That is, the chairman will try to speak as much English as possible, and everybody else is free to use the language he or she prefers (within reasonable limits). We will present the results from the PhD questionnaire, and hope for a lively discussion. Also, we will elect PhD representatives for 2007. And most important of all, the famous PhD Council sandwiches will be offered! (There is of course a formal agenda for those of you who are interested.) The PhD questionnaire shows that there are a lot of strong opinions among the PhD students at CSC about what ought to be changed at the school and how. Well, why not take the chance to actually implement your ideas? The PhD Council is the forum where we PhD students can influence what is going on at CSC! To read more about the PhD Council and what we do, have a look at these webpages! Or mail the PhD representatives 2006 if you have any questions. The "official working language" of the PhD Council (as of all of KTH CSC) is Swedish, so as a PhD representative it is good to have a working knowledge of Swedish (at least regarding listening comprehension, speaking in English yourself is perfectly OK). Send a mail that you are interested in becoming a PhD representative, or nominate someone else! Report on the PhD Questionnaire at CSC Released! The Board of the Postgraduate Students' Council at KTH CSC is pleased to announce that the report on the PhD student questionnaire 2006 at KTH CSC has now been released. We are less pleased to announce that unfortunately, there is no English version of the report. The work on the PhD questionnaire has been extremely time-consuming, and the Board of the PhD Council simply cannot manage to translate the report on the questionnaire to English. There is a summary of the numbers and percentages in the questionnaire results, though, but without the commentaries and without analysis. Meeting of the PhD Council Board on October 24th, 2006 at 1 PMThe meeting on October 11th was cancelled due to illness. The next meeting of the PhD Council Board will be held on Tuesday October 24th from 1 PM to 2 PM. All interested postgraduate students are welcome to attend the board meeting. Please contact the President of the PhD Council, though, so that we know that you are coming!

See the protocol [in Swedish] for more details.
New Salaries for Graduate StudentsThe negotiations for new salaries for the graduate students at KTH have been concluded. The most important result is that there now are clear rules for how the salary is increased during the studies. From now on the progress levels are tightly bound to the completed studying time, i.e. after completing 50% of your planned studying time you should have the salary of step 3 (unless there is written documentation that you have underperformed). The complete agreement can be found on www.dr.kth.se/doktorandavtal06.pdf
(only available in Swedish).
The new levels are:
Latest News from the PhD Council Board January 2006The board of the Postgraduate Students' Council, which consists of all elected PhD representatives in the different school bodies at KTH CSC, held the second meeting in its history on Tuesday January 17th. (The first board meeting was held a couple of weeks after the Postgraduate Students' Council meeting on October 24th.)The main theme of the meeting was quality assurance of the PhD education at KTH CSC. We discussed what the PhD education looks like at the different departments at KTH CSC. We found that there are many strong points, but also some weak points that we think should be changed. Based on the discussion, we will write a letter to the Dean Ingrid Melinder and the Head of Postgraduate Education (FA) Johan Håstad about matters that we would like to discuss with them. Also, we discussed very briefly the subject of so called predoc periods, a form of probationary employment for prospective PhD Students which KTH CSC wants to introduce. At present, the board of the Postgraduate Students' Council is cautiously positive to the idea, but we are working together with the PhD Section of the student union THS and FA Johan Håstad to flesh out the details.
The Postgraduate Students' Council at KTH CSC Is Up and Running! The first meeting of the Postgraduate Students' Council (doktorandrådet) at KTH CSC was held on Monday October 24th, 2005. The purpose of the meeting was to give information about the school organization and to elect postgraduate representatives to the School Board, the Executive Group, the Postgraduate Education Group and other postgraduate representative positions. The documents from the meeting can now be found on the web. We hope to be able to present more information on these webpages in a not too distant future. But the webpages are under construction, and we are still very much in a start-up phase, so please bear with us for a couple of months or so.
