Download GECCO

There are three types of compressed files you can download: executable, source code, or both. The "executable" files contain everything you need to run a GECCO server and client. The "source code" files contain the source code of the entire GECCO platform, all free, all Java. The "both" files contain both the executables and the source code.

Finally, the "javadoc" files contain the javadoc documentation for all the GECCO classes. If you'd rather read them on-line, you can find the latest version on the Javadoc page. (A complete list of all available GECCO documentation is on the Documentation page.)

Because Java is executed in a virtual machine, it may seem unnecessary to have one Unix and one Windows version. And indeed, they're almost identical; the only difference is that in the Unix version, we've included sh start scripts for your convenience, while in the Windows version, we've included equivalent bat start scripts. If you know how to execute a JAR file, you won't need these scripts, except as a convenience.

Version 1.0

Released August 31, 2001. We now consider GECCO being fully functional. Bugs from the beta version are now hopefully gone.

Version 1.0beta

Released July 2, 2001. First publically available version. Aside from some help texts and some bugs, GECCO is a finished product. We're releasing a beta version so you can play with it while we finish polishing it.
