Interested in joining the Theory Group?

Faculty positions

  • We are looking for a Professor in Computer Security. For more information, please see the official announcement. The deadline for applications is February 16, 2012
  • We are looking for an Associate Professor in Computer Science. For more information, please see the official announcement. The deadline for application is February 29, 2012

Postdoctoral positions

  • We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher for a research project at the intersection of proof complexity and SAT solving starting in August-September 2012. To receive full consideration, your application should be received by the application deadline January 31, 2012. Applications will be reviewed until the position has been filled.
  • We are offering a postdoctoral position in NP-hard optimization problems. Application deadline is February 15, 2012.

There are a few other options for postdoc positions with other sources of funding.

One possibility is that any foreign researchers with a PhD can apply for a grant for a postdoc position in Sweden funded by the Swedish Research Council (VR). The deadline is usually in early autumn. The latest call closed on August 25, 2011, and the next opportunity will probably be in August 2012 for an appointment starting sometime during 2013. To apply for a VR-funded position, you will need to find someone in the Theory Group to sponsor your application, and such a person could hopefully also help to shepherd you through the application process if needed (but it is not too complicated).

Another possibility are the postdoctoral scholarships from the Wenner-Gren Foundations [information in Swedish only], where the deadline is usually in October for positions starting in January the following year at the earliest. In this case you definitely need to find a sponsor in the Theory Group since the host is the one submitting the application. You should not have spent more than nine month in Sweden prior to the application, and your PhD degree should be no more than five years old (but if it is, there is the possibility to apply for somewhat more limited funding in terms of visiting researcher scholarships [again in Swedish]).

PhD student positions

  • We are looking for a couple of PhD students for a research project at the intersection of proof complexity and SAT solving starting in August-September 2012. The deadline for applications has passed but if you are a very strong candidate you are welcome to send in your application anyway. Applications will be reviewed until the positions have been filled.

The Theory Group is always on the lookout for skilled graduates wishing to enter the PhD program in one of our research areas. The first step is to get in touch with a suitable member of faculty. Check here for general information about the PhD program. For new PhD students the first step is normally to secure funding, a process which can unfortunately sometimes be nontrivial.
