We use computer simulation to study the neuronal control of motor behavior in animals. Neural models range from abstract control system, via spiking and non-spiking neuronal networks to detailed networks using compartmentalized model neurons with experimentally established ion channel dynamics.

We have built models of the distributed leg control of the stick insect and the spinal central pattern generator controlling walking in the cat. We are currently developing models of decending control and decision making in vertebrates, in particular targetting the lamprey and salamander.
