Magazine’s readability on iPad compared to
print
Abstract
The newspaper industry is under development where the question is
whether it will be completely digitalized as the readers are increasing or
whether readers prefer the printed format.
The aim of this bachelor thesis was to find out if a magazine's readability
is different on the iPad and in print. We have
investigated whether the time to read and the information recording is
different between the different media, and if the focus is different of images
and text.
The method for this investigation was divided into two parts. First, we
have done user testing on students at Royal Institute of Technology where we
compared the different media with subsequent semi-structured group interview,
and we sent a questionnaire to students in Master of Science in Engineering degree program in Media Technology and other
contacts through social networks.
The results of this study show that the interest for using iPad to read magazines is not large enough to replace the
printed version.
