Opinion and attitude towards illegal downloading of movies
Abstract
Illegal downloading and file sharing of copyrighted movies is a common phenomenon, especially among people who are in their twenties. This means film makers and others in the distribution chain will lose revenue. Downloading of movies in this way has been illegal in Sweden since 2005 but is still becoming more and more common among people.
In this bachelor thesis, opinion and attitudes regarding illegal downloading of movies will be examined. In this case the study was carried out on students studying media technology at the Royal Institute of Technology. The thesis is user-cantered and goes through surrounding factors that could have an influence on people’s opinion and attitude on illegal downloading.
The study in this thesis consists of a survey and interviews conducted in the selected target group. Results from the survey conclude that there are a number of important reasons to why illegal downloading of movies occurs and it explains why the individual wishes to use it. It also shows that there are a number of issues with the legislation concerning illegal downloading of movies. It also concludes that there are some underlying reasons to why illegal downloading of movies takes place and how they have made it possible.
This has together made illegal downloading of movies a common phenomenon and made so many people to think it is okay to make use of illegal downloading even though it is illegal.
