The traditional diary, often written in a locked book with blank pages, have been filled with thoughts, feelings and things you do not like to share with others. Today, the diary has been replaced by the blog and in contrast to the very secret diary the blog is published on the Internet, available for everyone to read. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate why people are exposing their private life in blogs in front of a possibly very large crowd in a way that they normally would not do in front of people they meet personally, in real life. Concepts such as private and the difference between private and public is discussed in the theory section. The method used to investigate this were qualitative interviews where six people were interviewed both in person and via Skype, MSN Messenger and email. The results showed that the bloggers experienced the blog as a world apart, and that text and speech are totally different things.
