Notification using sound alteration
Abstract
This report describes how a notication system for today's mobile
phones can be designed to reduce the interference from notications during
music listening using headphones compared to today's system. A
criterion is that the notability of the notications in the designed system
is sucient to receive attention in natural environments with ambient
noises and distractions.
The result is a system that uses binaural audio and evasive panning
of the music which was considered less disruptive than today's existing
notication system. The developed system notications were considered
by a focus group to t in better with the music and reduce the disturbance
to the listening experience while maintaining a sucient notability.
