Seeing as many TV-stations in Sweden now choose not to air children's programs in their linear TV- channels, it seams as though they are abandoning their efforts to attract children to watch it. Instead we can observe that the children's programs produced or bought by the TV-stations now are available on the networks website through web-based television.
This study was conducted in order to find out the consequences of the paradigm shift and how the usage of the service of web-based television is received among children. The research focuses on finding out whether children at the age of nine prefers watching linear television or web-based television. The result of this study should consequently point out the future of the consumption of television.
The paper has used the following methods: focus group interviews with children at the age of nine, analysis of specific data acquired from TV-stations and public data and previous case studies of children's use of web-based television. The conclusion of this study is that children are very much aware of the web-based television service and use it regularly, however they still prefer to watch their shows on linear television due to the quality of the broadcast.
However, as the young generation of today is brought up in a media climate where internet plays a major role, the report states that it is most likely that web-based television will play an important role in the media climate of the future.
