Where did the traditional newspaper go? An investigation of the technical developments in the newspaper industry

Abstract

During the 90’s the Internet had a break-through and became available to the public and since then newspapers have tried to establish versions of their product on the web. This thesis covers the scientific field of web development, how it should be used in practice and how the newspapers have worked with web development. We have conducted our work through studying literature and interviewing representatives from three of Sweden’s largest nationwide newspapers.

The result then shows the newspapers have conducted their work and in the discussion we look at the connection between the scientific field and the practice, while at the same time analyzing the difficulties connected to running a newspaper on a web site.
