Analysis of voting algoritms
Abstracts
Several different algorithms may be used to distribute the seats between the
different parties in a parliament and to guarantee a fair geographic representation.
To solve this, an algorithm using so called fixed seats ensures representation from
each electoral district and leveling seats which ensure a fair representation for each
party is used.
This report will first summarize, analyze and compare
the d'Hondt, Sainte-Laguë and modified Sainte-Laguë methods
to allocating seats between political parties.
This will be followed by a study of the current algorithm used to
distribute seats in the (Swedish) parliament with electoral districts
and leveling seats, and proposed variants.
Mainly, historical election results have been used for the research.
