Course analysis (kursanalys), previous year (2009)
The course this year has been restructured taking into account the researchers and lectures we have here, but also using the experience from previous year (2007-2008) when Anders Ynnerman from Norrköping gave the lectures.
For all participants in the course, please register into the res-system not later than 30 March, on our computers (faun or hippograff) by:
faun> res checkin visual10
and answer the questions you get. We use the res-system to register the results for you regarding the course (lab assignments and exam). If you need an account, please contact Lars Kjelldahl.

Assignments: There will be three main assignments in the course:
- Paraview: three parts: tutorial exercise, volume volume visualization, kitchen visualization. write a report about part 2 and part 3. Deadline foir report to be sent to lassekj@csc.kth.se: 26 April
The text for this assignment can be found here. (Number of words in report changed to appr 2000-3000 words). A copy of PET-CT.zip is available here.
- Qlikview: text and data for this assignment can be found here.
- Free lab: you can choose an assignment among a set of options such as:
VTK programming
further Paraview use
application oriented assignment
You are expected to specify this assignment your self and complete it on your own. Deadline for sending specification: 23 April. Deadline for sending report on free lab: 10 June. The report could be 3-5 pages of text + figures (send as pdf or doc - not docx).
Teachers and lab supervisors: Gustav Taxén, Jonas Forsslund, Lars Kjelldahl
Content of the course: The visualization pipeline, basic data representation, algorithms for scalar data, algorithms for vector data, advanced data representation, volume rendering, medical visualization, information visualization
Literature: The main text book is Data Visualization, Principles and Practice, by Alexandru C. Telea, AK Peters, 2008

The examination in this course will include four parts:
- Three lab assignments (L) and one exam (combined written and oral exam)
The final grade will be given by a combination of the exam grade and the free lab grade. More details about this to be given later.
Exam (home and oral):
The examination take place according to:
1. A home exam will be published here on 29 April. The answers should be sent by email as an attached pdf (or word) file by 16 May to lassekj 'at' csc.kth.se
2. After the written exam an oral examination which is a follow-up of the home exam of 15-20 minutes will take place according to booked time slots. The schedule for oral exams is 25 May: 10-12, 28 May: 10-12, 31 May, 13-15. More time slots will be set up. Book a time slot by sending an email to me.
