Problem with devices, solution was udev
Recently I had problems with linux complaining about "no entry for
device-maper found" and "/dev/mappar/control: open failed: no suc
device", installing the packet udev fixed this. Note that it
requires a 2.6.12 kernel or newer.

- anacron is useful when computer is not on 24/7, makes sure missed cron jobs get done next time computer is turned on
- ifplugd autodetects and connects to network
- cpudyn lowers cpu frequency when idle, saves battery power

- bastille improves security by optimizing configuration
- hdaps-utils detects acceleration and parks harddisk
